President Donald Trump’s wild Tuesday rant attacking Supreme Court justices — including those he nominated to the bench — exposed his not-so-hidden agenda for attempting to eliminate most voting by mail.
“Republicans just got another bad decision from the United States Supreme Court, one that the Court System took forever to give, and then blamed it, in part, on no time left to implement a solution to our totally CORRUPT and out of control Mail-In voting ‘disaster,’ which is a laughing stock all over the World, and where we are the only country that has to endure such a Nation Destroying SCAM,” the president alleged in his 463-word attack.
He called it a “horrible, highly political, ruling” that is a “big loss for Republicans, and America itself.”
And he claimed it “makes cheating by the Radical Left ‘Dumocrats,’ on Mail-In Ballots, a much easier thing to do.”
“These are not the people I interviewed to serve on the United States Supreme Court,” Trump charged.
The high court on Monday refused to support Trump’s bid to block mail-in ballots.
Calling it a “stark defeat” for Trump, the Associated Press on Monday reported that the Court’s “decision allows states to continue sending out mail ballots under the same processes they’ve used for years and have accounted for nearly a third of votes cast.”
In his rant, Trump also attacked the Court’s rulings on tariffs and birthright citizenship, which went against the administration.
But what Trump revealed is that his entire effort to limit most mail-in voting was a scheme to help Republicans win elections.
Democracy Docket founder and attorney Marc Elias, who has successfully battled Trump and the GOP in the nation’s courts, said as much on Tuesday.
“Donald Trump admits what DOJ and most of the legacy media refuse to,” Elias wrote. “The U.S. Postal Service mail-in ballot rule was a partisan effort to help the GOP.”
Trump has previously admitted his scheme was designed to help Republicans.
Speaking in February about his SAVE Act, which critics call a voting restriction bill, and about limiting mail-in ballots, which he called “crooked as hell,” Trump said that blocking them would assure GOP dominance.
“We’re the only country in the world that use this type of mail-in ballot, the only country in the world,” Trump said at a rally in Rome, Georgia, as The New Republic reported at the time. “I’ll tell you what, Republicans have to win this one. We’ll never lose a race for fifty years, we won’t lose a race.”
Over at Democracy Docket, Elias explained what was behind Trump’s revealing Tuesday rant.
“His assessment is remarkably clear-eyed,” he wrote. “Trump has been searching for a way to rig the midterms almost from the moment he came back into office.”
“For most of 2025,” Elias continued, “he tried to sell the idea that he could control elections and vote counting — falsely claiming that states are mere agents of the federal government when it comes to counting ballots.”
